How to use the internet to make money

How to use the internet to make money
As long as you have the inclination, a little bit of expertise and some free time, you can earn some money on the Internet from the comfort of your own home. ET highlights some popular ways to make that quick extra buck:
Self publish books
If you love writing and want to get a book published, Amazon offers a free service called Kindle Direct Publishing. The service allows anyone to self publish books on the Kindle (electronic) bookstore and earn royalties from sales. There are two plans you can choose from — the 35% royalty works across any book sold in any country) while the 70% royalty plans works if you sell in a few select countries. Indian authors can choose to set prices specifically for the Indian bookstore and receive royalty payments in Indian currency as well.
Make & sell your apps
With so many smartphones and tablets, app development can be a very lucrative business. You can learn about developing apps online — there are various tutorials available for free. That's the easy part — the hard part is coming up with an idea that 'clicks'. Once you make an app, submit it to the respective app store, set a price and choose whether you want to earn from inapp advertising. Your earnings, after deducting the appropriate fees, will be paid monthly.
Sell your photos Online
Numerous stock websites like www.shutterstock. com, www.shutterpoint.com and www. istockphoto.com host photographs submitted by members. Depending on the site's policy, you can earn between a 15 to 85% royalty on each sale. The better the quality of photos and the larger your online portfolio, the more you will sell. Usually, each photograph you want to upload will have to be 'selected' by them first — and they usually have strict requirements of what can or cannot go on sale.
Sell old stuff online
An easy way to earn some money on the Internet is by selling old stuff that you have around the house. Websites like www.olx.in, www.quickr.com & http://craigslist.co.in provide a free classifieds platform. You need to create an account, enter the product details, location, the expected price along with some photographs — listing usually go live within a couple of hours. Interested buyers can directly contact you and finalise the sale.
Start an online shop
With some creativity, you can learn to make handicrafts or if you know a wholesale dealer, purchase unique things at low prices. Once you have some stock ready, you can set up an online shop to sell these goods on sites like www.ebay.in or www.indiebazaar.com.
Both sites have a simple signup process. After you get verified as a seller, they provide you with a step-by-step wizard to set your online store (how to add photos & details of items you want to sell).
Work online for money
The internet is full of bogus companies that promise to pay you for work but never will. For instance, all places that offer money to fill surveys or those that require payment up front are scammers. Two popular & reliable places to find work are www. odesk.com and www.elance.com.
Both have a similar system: set up a profile and take tests to prove your proficiency in certain areas. Once done, you'll be listed as a contractor/freelancer and people can hire you for an hourly rate. You can get paid more by working hard, getting better at what you do and getting good feedback (ratings) from your clients.
E-Tutoring
If you are fluent in any subject and have some tutoring experience, you can sign up on websites like www.2tion.net or www.tutorvista.com as an online tutor. The sites require you to create a tutor profile with details such as the subjects in which you are fluent, what classes/courses you want to teach, your experience level, preferred timings for tutions and the remuneration expected.
After verification, the site lists your profile on their portal where interested students can connect with you for tuitions. You can opt for virtual workspaces with built in teaching aids like live chat and collaborative whiteboards. Once you get better at tutoring, you can increase your monthly earnings by teaching multiple students simultaneously.
Earn from Advertising
A reliable way to earn money is from Google AdSense on your blog/website or ads on your YouTube channel. To get started, create a Google AdSense account at www. google.com/adsense. You can use the same account with your blog, website or YouTube channel. To maximise earnings from your blog or website, your objective needs to be to get the maximum number of visitors possible.
Write about what you know and what you're passionate about. On YouTube, make sure that your videos are original and interesting. Promote your channel to get more views. Apart from views, your objective should also be to get more people to like/favourite your video and to subscribe to your channel. The build up will be slow and Google only makes payments once your balance crosses $100, so don't get disheartened. Persistent efforts pay off in the long run.

NEW DELHI: Hours before the BCCI took the decision to stage the Ranji Trophy semifinal match between Mumbai and Services at the Palam cricket ground in the Capital from January 16 to 21, Sachin Tendulkar had requested the board to shift the venue to Mumbai.

However, sources close to the development told TOI that BCCI 'politely' rejected Tendulkar's request by saying that the rule book doesn't permit it to do so. Tendulkar is currently playing for Mumbai and featured in the quarterfinal against Baroda which ended on Thursday.

Ranji games are being played on home-and-away basis which gives the right of hosting the semifinal to Services since the last time the two teams clashed, in 1964-65, Mumbai hosted the game at the Brabourne stadium. That too was a semifinal.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is mulling staging knock-out matches at neutral venues from the next season.

High alert, reports of troop build-up on both sides of Indo-Pak border
Pakistan has so far not responded to requests from India and its army for a flag meeting at the brigade level to de-escalate tension along the LoC.

JAMMU: Tension continued to prevail along the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan on Saturday, a day after cross-LoC firing was reported on at least eight border posts.
There are also reports of a troop build-up on both sides of the border.
Pakistan has so far not responded to requests from India and its army for a flag meeting at the brigade level to de-escalate tension along the LoC.
Indian intelligence intercepts reveal that the Pakistan Army has cancelled all leaves and ordered its troops to report for duty.
According to sources, defence secretary Shashi Kant Sharma and the three service chiefs are likely to brief defence minister AK Antony on Saturday on the latest situation prevailing along the LoC.
The Indian side has been bolstered with the presence of additional Border Action Task Force personnel. Surveillance has been heightened with both the Army and Air Force deploying unmanned aerial vehicles in areas over Poonch and Rajouri sectors.
Sources said Pakistani troops fired intermittently at eight Indian border posts on the LoC in Krishna Ghati and Sonagali around Mendhar sector and Poonch on Friday.
The firing lasted for 20 minutes.
On Friday, India confirmed that Pakistan has suspended cross-border trade.
"As per our understanding, because of some circumstances in one sector, neither trucks nor buses could go," said Syed Akbaruddin, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, according to ANI.
Also, Pakistan's foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani summoned India's high commissioner Sharat Sabharwal to protest against "repeated", "unacceptable" and "unprovoked" attacks by the Indian Army which led to the death of a Pakistani soldier on Thursday.
Jilani asked India to "investigate violations of ceasefire by Indian troops" and "emphasised that such unprovoked attacks were against the spirit of the ongoing peace process".
Sabharwal said India's troops undertook "controlled retaliation" in the face of "unprovoked firing".
Pakistan also reiterated its demand for a United Nations Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) probe, but India maintains that that following the Shimla agreement in 1972 and the establishment of the LoC, the UNMOGIP has no relevance or role to play whatsoever.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also been briefed on the tense border situation by National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon.

New Audi SQ5 with 349hp 3.0-liter TSI to Debut at Detroit Auto Show

New Audi SQ5 with 349hp 3.0-liter TSI to Debut at Detroit Auto Show

Last summer, Audi introduced its first ever S model powered by a diesel-engine, the SQ5 SUVsporting 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 TDI with a power output of 308hp (313PS) and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).
At the time, the Ingolstadt-based brand said that the TDI will only be offered in Europe. Audi hasn't changed its mind about the availability of the SQ5 TDI, but at the upcoming Detroit auto show, it will reveal a second iteration of the SQ5, this time powered by a supercharged gasoline engine.
Audi says this model was created specifically for the following markets: United States, Canada, China, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and the Ukraine, and will not be offered in Europe.
At the heart of the new SQ5 lies Audi's 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with a compressor featuring two rotors that spin at over 20,000 rpm. The TSI unit generates 349hp (354PS) between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm, and delivers 470Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft between 4,000 and 4,500 rpm.
An eight-speed tiptronic and quattro permanent all-wheel drive transfer power to the road.
According to Audi, the SQ5 TSI completes the 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint in 5.3 seconds and has an electronically limited speed of 250km/h (155 mph), while returning an average fuel consumption of 8.5 lt/100km in the NEDC (equal to 21mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 199g/km.
That compares to the AQ5 TDI's 5.1-second sprint time, 250 km/h (155mph) top speed and a fuel economy of 7.2 lt/100 km (32.7 US mpg).
The gasoline-powered SQ5 rides on a 30mm (1.2-inches) lowered chassis with tauter springs and shock absorbers, and new 20-inch alloy wheels (21-inch are optional) shod in 255/45-series tires. Audi also offers an optional dynamic steering with a 'steplessly variable ratio'.
As you would imagine, the SQ5 TDI and TSI share the same bespoke styling cues both inside and outside, with the only visible difference being the U.S. market model's colored turning signals up front.
As a refresher, exterior appointments include a platinum gray radiator grille with aluminum-look bars, a gloss package and exterior mirrors in aluminum look, a rear diffuser and side skirts, while Audi also offers two exclusive crystal-effect finishes named Estoril Blue and Panther Black.
In the cabin, you will find gray dials and white numerals for the instruments, sports steering wheel and seats trimmed in leather, and aluminum-look décor.
Audi said the new SQ5 TSI will arrive at U.S. dealerships in the third quarter of 2013 with pricing to be announced.
