Ex-French president Sarkozy plans to move to London: Report

London: Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy may move to London to set up a billion pounds plus investment fund to escape a potential top tax rate of 75 per cent in his home country, a media report claimed on Tuesday.

Details of the planned move were uncovered during a raid by fraud police on Sarkozy's Paris mansion last June, the Daily mail reported.

Sarkozy and his former supermodel third wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy would be likely to settle in an affluent district like South Kensington, so becoming the most high profile Gallic celebrity couple in the city.

But the former President is under investigation for corruption in France, and if he does cross the channel there will be outrage, the report said.

It came within weeks of Sarkozy losing his immunity against prosecution after being defeated by Socialist rival Francois Hollande in the May presidential election.

If Sarkozy moves to London, the controversial Frenchman will become the latest to escape a potential top tax rate of 75 per cent in his home country, it said.

The hugely respected investigative news site Mediapart has reported that the 'first draft' of Sarkozy's London project was found by detectives examining his computer files.

A judge has since made Sarkozy an assisted witness in the so-called Bettencourt Affair, in which he is accused of using illegal cash from France's richest woman to fund his 2007 election campaign.

Sarkozy is being investigated over numerous funding scandals, including one linked to arms sales to Pakistan, and another in which he is said to have used millions in taxpayers' money to pay friends to produce opinion polls while he was in office.

Cadillac ATS, RAM 1500 Win 2013 North American Car & Truck/Utility of the Year Awards

A panel of 49 motoring journalists has chosen theCadillac ATS and Chrysler’s RAM 1500 as the 2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year respectively, with the results being announced during the opening day of the 25th Detroit Motor Show.Cadillac’s new compact luxury sedan beat the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion, the two other finalists selected by the jury in the car category after eliminating eight other rivals that included the BMW 3-Series, the Dodge Dart and the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ.
“This is a very meaningful honor for the entire Cadillac team, especially the mean and women who build the ATS in Lansing, Michigan, and our dedicated and talented designers and engineers”, said GM vice president Bob Ferguson.
Likewise, the 2013 RAM 1500 grabbed top honors from the Mazda CX-5 crossover and Ford C-MAX MPV in the Truck/Utility category, with the trio being chosen by the voting journalists over the Ford Escape, BMW X1 and Audi Allroad.
President and CEO of RAM Truck brand said that this announcement “ranks as the one of the proudest day in our history”. This is the second time a RAM truck wins the title, the first being back in 1994 when it won the inaugural award.
So, two U.S. cars win the coveted titles for 2013; that’s quite a return to form for Detroit, especially given that last year only one of its cars (the Ford Focus) managed to impress the voters enough to make it to the finalists.
